When you turn on the television and you watch Scandal, How to get Away with Murder or Love and Hip Hop. What is the most common thing you see between all the females? They wear weaves. When you see Olivia Pope hair bouncing as she walk, it’s not her hair that’s bouncing. It’s not the hair that grows from her roots. It’s is hair that is shipped to the United States to be sold in stores. It’s nice, straight and long. Many may say that Viola Davis showed her real hair multiple times in the show, but she only show her hair while she’s was at home, in her bedroom. Nobody was around her. When her real hair is out, she is always distressed and crying during those scenes. When she puts on a fake smile, she puts on her fake hair. It’s short, straight and looks “well put together”. Why do she feel the need to put on a wig when she goes to teach a class? Why did the producers have her put her wig on every time she decided to walk out of her house and handle business?
I remember there was a time I was watching a Love and Hip Hop reunion episode. Two ladies were fighting and one of the females weave ponytail was pulled off exposing her real hair in a ponytail. Of course there were pictures everywhere and people were saying she was bald headed and didn’t have long hair. Why do people feel the need to point out the fact that somebody doesn’t have the longest hair in the world? There was nothing wrong with her hair, it was shoulder length, but people felt the need to go on for days complaining about her hair. It is disturbing, especially when the criticism is coming from males and females whose hair doesn’t pass their ears. This is one of the reasons why females wear weave. It is not always for a protective style or because it is easier to manage, it is sometimes to have the length of hair they can only dream of.
