Black girls love saying “My hair was long, but I cut it.” That is ridiculous that the length our hair even matters. Long hair, short hair, why should it matter. Growing up in the inner city and always hearing girls talk about how much their bundles cost, or how much their cousin charges for a sew-in is extremely common. There is a constant pressure for girls hair to be “laid”, I personally deal with the struggles of feeling that I need a weave. I love the idea of having my luscious indian locks flow in the wind.
Black women are brainwashed to believe that long hair equals beauty. I know that I struggle with thinking this too. However, this is something that I am trying to steer away from. It is a constant reminder when big events such as prom, and graduation come around.
Weaves are a protected style for most black girls. However, boys make fun of girls for having extensions and call the, “baldheaded”. They believe that in society, longer hair is more accepted. Does long hair = Good hair?
